About the Audiologists
Cathleen A. Alex, Au.D.
Cathleen A. Alex, Au.D., is a board-certified Doctor of Audiology and founded Southbury Audiology in 1996. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology as well as her Master of Science Degree in Audiology from Penn State. She was the first graduate of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry School of Audiology (now Salus University) Doctor of Audiology program in May of 2001. Dr. Alex is the founding and current President of the Connecticut Academy of Audiology, a charter member and fellow of the American Academy of Audiology, certified member of the American Speech and Hearing Association, and member of the Academy of Dispensing Audiologists. She is committed to providing state-of-the art hearing care to patients of all ages in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
Dr. Alex is from Watertown, Connecticut, where she helps her husband manage Evergreen Berry Farm, a blueberry/raspberry PYO farm they started together in 1979. They have three grown and married children and five grandchildren.
Stephanie Bakewell, Au.D.
Stephanie Bakewell, Au.D., is a board-certified Doctor of Audiology. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Communication Disorders with a minor in Gerontology from the University of Connecticut in 2008. She earned her doctorate degree in Audiology from the University of Connecticut in 2012. Dr. Bakewell is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology and maintains her Certificate of Clinical Competency from the American Speech and Hearing Association. She is an active member of the Connecticut Academy of Audiology and holds a Connecticut License in Audiology. She is committed to a holistic approach of care, and currently teaches Language Development as an adjunct professor at Post University. Dr. Bakewell resides in Northwest Connecticut with her husband Michael, son Anthony, daughter Lucy, and lab Rambo.

Medical Secretaries
Mary Comunale and Marybeth McCusker are the friendly voices of the practice. They form our front line for making appointments, handling insurance claims, and any billing questions you may have.
Mary joined us in 2018 and has extensive background in healthcare as both a medical assistant and an administrative assistant. She also enjoyed previous work as a preschool teaching assistant. Mary grew up in Bridgewater and is currently living in Southbury with her husband Carter and daughter Paige. She also has an older daughter, Ally, who has blessed her with a beautiful granddaughter, Seras.
Marybeth joined our practice in 2022 and comes to us with a background managing the front desk of a busy pediatric office, as well as past director of marketing and operations at the Arts Escape for seniors. She resides in Southbury with her husband Tom and dog Charlie. They have three grown daughters.
